| Welcome to the Coastal Training Program With increasing human development and activity along our coasts, it is critical that those responsible for making important resource management decisions have the support, knowledge and skills required to protect the natural resources of our bays and watersheds. To carry this out successfully, the gap between science and management must be bridged. To address this need, the National Estuarine Research Reserve System (NERRS) launched its national Coastal Training Program (CTP) initiative.
Coastal decision-makers are individuals who, through their professional or volunteer position, make decisions that directly or indirectly impact the health of Narragansett Bay and its watershed. Decision-maker audiences include municipal staff and officials (town planners, planning board, town council, zoning board and economic development board members, and conservation commission members) as well as designers, developers, engineers, landscape architects, attorneys, regulators, and land trusts and watershed councils.
