Welcome to the Coastal Training Program (CTP) What's New The Coastal Training Program is happy to announce the release of the new Rhode Island Marine and Estuarine Invasive Species website: www.rimeis.org. The website targets various stakeholder groups and acts as a clearinghouse for information on established and potentially invasive marine and estuarine species in Narragansett Bay. It provides species profiles, identification cards, professional education and outreach documents, links to other websites, and news about upcoming events. Check it out! CTP in the News Conservation Development Builds R.I. Character RI Development Needs to be Low Impact Why CTP? With increasing human development and activity along our coasts, it is critical that those responsible for making important resource management decisions have the support, knowledge and skills required to protect the natural resources of our bays and watersheds. To carry this out successfully, the gap between science and management must be bridged. To address this need, the National Estuarine Research Reserve System (NERRS) launched its national Coastal Training Program (CTP) initiative.
Coastal decision-makers are individuals who, through their professional or volunteer position, make decisions that directly or indirectly impact the health of Narragansett Bay and its watershed. Decision-maker audiences include municipal staff and officials (town planners, planning board, town council, zoning board and economic development board members, and conservation commission members) as well as designers, developers, engineers, landscape architects, attorneys, regulators, and land trusts and watershed councils.
