Welcome to the Coastal Training Program
To carry this out successfully, the gap between science and management must be bridged. To address this need, the National Estuarine Research Reserve System (NERRS) of the National Estuarine Reserves Division of NOAA launched its national Coastal Training Program (CTP) initiative. CTPs provide “coastal decision-makers” (‘decision-makers’ or ‘CDMs’) with the best science-based information and skills that are necessary to make informed decisions about how to best protect our coastal resources. CDMs are individuals who, through their professional or volunteer position, make decisions that directly or indirectly impact the health of Narragansett Bay and its watershed. Decision-maker audiences include municipal staff and volunteers (planners, town council members, planning and zoning board members, etc.) as well as regulators, land developers, private industries and businesses and environmental non-profits. CTP programs are delivered in a variety of formats ranging from participatory workshops and skill-based trainings to seminars and field-based activities. Participants of CTP programs benefit from opportunities to share experiences and network in a multidisciplinary setting and to develop new collaborative relationships. In addition to providing quality trainings and tools, the CTP strives to facilitate networking and information exchange between decision-makers as well as enhance collaboration, coordination and communication among other training groups in the Narragansett Bay watershed. |
